As a member of Candid’s nationwide network of nonprofit serving agencies, Kern Community Foundation provides our Nonprofit Partners with free public access to Candid’s electronic databases and resources. This is part of our Nonprofit Strengthening Initiative and one of the benefits of registering with Kern Community Foundation.

For serious grant seekers and fundraising professionals seeking to strengthen their nonprofit organization, possibly the most important of Candid’s resources is the Foundation Directory Online (FDO), which delivers quality funding prospects. By combining exhaustive data with intuitive search functionality and informative data visualizations, FDO delivers the information you need to reach your fundraising goals quickly and efficiently. Included are profiles of more than 166,000 foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities, as well as profiles of more than 800,000 grant recipients and information on more than 16.8 million awarded grants. 

To be granted access to the Foundation Directory Online through Kern Community Foundation’s website, an agency must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation headquartered in Kern County or actively serving Kern’s community;
2. Have completed and submitted a Nonprofit Registration for Foundation Services through the Foundation’s Online Grants Portal, which can be accessed through the Available Grants page on our website;
3. Maintain a minimum Silver Transparency Rating on GuideStar.org.
